If there is one area in art that will cause me to turn green with envy, it is a well executed portrait. These portraits by Toronto artist Judith Geher have me "Pantone Color of the Year EMERALD 17-5641". Her Paintings come alive with emotive gesture and feminine color. WOW!
I love the lovely loose brush strokes held together with soft line... leaving the viewer to fill in the blanks.
This has inspired my Tuesday, hope it does the same for you.
Meet: Margaret. She's the chef extraordinaire for the new PAPAYA! kitchen. She'll be cooking up daily healthy and delicious lunches for the staff here at PAPAYA!
Today's menu: minestrone soup with slow cooked beef, a garden salad, and Italian bread.
A few of us have gotten in the habit of eating at our desks so having the chance to sit and visit with everyone was a nice change.
We haven't named our cafe yet. Thoughts?
Before we introduce new products, we like to take them on a "road test" to make sure we're happy with their quality and functionality. This winter, we traveled a lot (Anahata shared photos of Las Vegas and Atlanta on her blog) with PAPAYA! and PAPAYA! Living trade shows so it just so happened to be the perfect time to test on our newest travel accessories: Computer Sleeves and Jewelry & Cosmetic Cases.
I love the PAPAYA! computer sleeves because they're made of a durable material that can withstand a lot of travel-related abuse. I can be pretty hard on my things, so I was grateful for the padded home for my laptop (computer sleeves are made for 13" and smaller). I kept all my work docs and my little wacom tablet in the file folder sized pocket and my charger and mouse in the smaller pocket on the other side.
My other travel lifesaver was the jewelry/cosmetic roll bag. I actually tried two bags, one for cosmetics and one for jewelry. I hung the cosmetic one on the door and laid the jewelry one on the dresser. It was so nice to be able to see everything and keep them separated (especially after the hot pink powder explosion incident).
Don't forget, we also have Tablet Cases, Luggage Tags, Passport Holders, Luxe Totes (great carry on bag) and Accessory Pouches that make great travel companions.
This is a very cool collaborative project hosted by Brooklyn-based Art House Co-op that's been gaining serious momentum over the last several years. In their words, "Like a road trip, but with sketchbooks." Love this!!! It's gained such popularity that submissions and participation have become regional. Check out their digital library for photos from years past.

Another sweet surprise when I stumbled onto these bold graphic paintings & illustrations by Minnesota artist Jennifer Davis. I'm not sure what captivated me more--the intriguing animals or punchy color palette or...the combination of doodles and paint drips or....just a darn eclectic mix of imagery that works. Above, is "Scaredy Cat".

This week on the plane I had a chance to read Julia Chaplins,Gypset Travel. Her second book about Gypset. The first beingGypset Style. I received the book as a gift from my brother for Christmas and hadn't yet had a chance to read it. I did the once over all the lovely photo's, but not the meaningful words.
Journalist and travel writer, Julia Chaplin (above) gives a saturated and intimate depiction of people she calls Gypset. A clever word she designed. Gypsy + Jetset.
What could be better?! The book is broken down into destinations with a set of criteria based on migrations of creative, (hipster) types seeking freedom through lifestyle and personal expression.
And though I enjoyed some destinations more than others, her optomistic attitide makes you fall in love with the ideas and concepts she outlines. She writes, "Before beginning this book, I assumed that utopias didn't really exist, but I have come to believe that, on a personal scale, they can.
Either way, it's the effort and commitment that's interesting..." I fell in love with the visual and romantic journeys she portrays in the book. It helped me feel a bit more engaged in booking more trips, taking more chances, and going after the mixed up life. It's an inspiring read.
